Travelling with the family in Seville and Granada

We arrived late at night in Seville and it was noticeably warmer than the North of Spain, but we didn't feel the full effects until the next day in the sun (actually we were lucky and it only hit about 38 C)

We went to see the major sites of the city, the Plaza de Toros (a bull ring), a tour of the Cathedral and finally the Alcazar (an arabic palace). We saw some Flamenco dancing and I made good use of my new fan.

My sisters commented that they felt as though they were on the Amazing race as we went around from site to site. My mom was all about the souvenir shops and my Dad always wanted to try a new cerveza.

We got on the train to spend one night in Granada and to visit the Alhambra.

Now I am in Hull in England at my step aunt's house and I have only a few days left in Europe.

Hi Katie:

I actually have something to tell you. Went out with friends last week for a double birthday dinner. Afterwards, we bought ice cream and walked through the warm and leafy twilight in Vancouver's West End.

We spotted a large and unusual tree and walked over for a closer look. Several people were about, including a woman in black leather doing something to her motorcycle.

The tree was really big, and really unusual -- so we asked this woman if she know anything about it. She smiled and told us that she knew little, but she did know the name of the species. She had an odd and anticipatory smile on her face.

"This type of tree is called a 'Caucasian Wingnut'", she said.

Now we knew the reason for her smile.

We Googled it up later on and it is really the name. I still can't believe the fabulous new addition to my vocabulary -- a ringing phrase, to be used in a spirit of gleeful anarchy.

Say hello to Terry, Betty and your sisters for me.
